4 Month Dr. Appointment

Friday we had Kaili’s 4 month baby well appointment. She now weighs 11 lbs. 2 oz. and measures 25 inches long. She is on the smaller side for her age but since she is getting so tall it’s not a nutrition issue. I wasn’t surprised that Dr. Hansen noticed her flat head. He wasn’t to concerned but he does want us to try and correct it. Since now it’s “back to sleep” flat heads are more common on babies since they spend so much time on their back. He suggested we try to keep her off her back while she is awake, more tummy time and told us to pick up an exersaucer for her to sit in. The only problem I am finding with the exersaucer is even though it says for 4 month olds, Kaili is smaller and she doesn’t quite fit in it yet. It’s day 1 and I am finding it difficult to keep her off her back. She so much enjoys laying on her play mat and grabbing her feet but that is what is causing flat head. Bummer! He said that if it doesn’t correct itself she may have to wear a helmet, even though it’s rare.

He said I could start her on rice cereal at 5 months and vegetables at 6. Right now I know I wont spoon feed her any solids until she can sit up on her own, although if I feel it’s necessary I may decided to mix in a little rice cereal in her bottle when the time comes.

She also got her vaccinations yesterday which resulted in a rough day for her. She took the shots well (Shane was with her, I was in the waiting room) but soon after she was hystericaly crying and I was close to doing the same. She seemed to calm down on the drive home but the rest of the day was exhausting. She didn’t nap at all and she seemed to be crying in pain. So sad. However she went down in her crib at 8pm and slept until 5 am. So that was a positive!

3 Month Pictures

I am late to get these pictures up since we have been on the go for awhile.

Kaili is a strong little girl, she loves to try and stand and will even move her feet in  a walking motion. She can push her chest and head up really good now while she is on her tummy. Most of the time she will roll over onto her back which must be a little scary for her because it leads to crying. She loves to hold her feet and will even fall asleep with them in her hand. Her hands are in her mouth if her pacifier is not. Drool is abundant and so is her babbling. Bath time is by far the best part of her day. I have bypassed the baby tub and put her straight in the big bath tub with a little water. She likes to splash and kick and will even push herself around with her feet. She is a little water baby and I will get her into swimming next summer!

We Made It!

We are finally all home and rested from our nice long trip to WA. The flight home wasn’t as easy as the flight there, but it wasn’t too terrible. Kaili caught a bit of a cold the last few days of our trip, that made for an unhappy baby on the plane. She did some crying but also some eating and sleeping which helped balance it out.

I decided once we got home from our trip I would transition Kaili into her crib at night. That isn’t going as well as I hoped. I think it’s because she is used to sleeping in a small, comfy space and the crib is a bigger, flat surface. I can get her down just fine (still swaddled) but she is waking up in the early morning, anywhere from midnight to 3am. and once she is awake I can’t get her back to sleep in the crib. The first night I tried for an hour and a half…yikes! I finally gave in and put her down back in our room in her bassinet. Go figure she fell right to sleep. That is how it has been going so far. I am happy that she is sleeping part of the night in her own room and getting used to the crib. Now I just need her to start sleeping through the night again. I went out and bought a fancy shmancy crib mobile and I will put some white noise on tonight, we will see if that helps!

Kaili’s First Trip To WA.

Kaili and I met Shane at LAX last Thursday for our flight to Pasco, WA.  We checked all of our luggage except for the car-seat, diaper bag and computer bag so we could have some hands free and enjoy lunch. The flight went better than expected, baby girl did great! When we arrived in Pasco we got a rental SUV and made the 3 1/2 hour drive to Tacoma. We stopped halfway for something for dinner for us and Kaili at Sonic’s Drive In. First time there and I wasn’t impressed. Kaili slept the rest of the way to our destination.

We stayed at Shane’s ex step-mom Linda’s house. She was super nice and it was a great visit. On Saturday Shane, his dad, myself and Kaili went down to Tacoma waterfront and enjoyed lunch at Dukes Chowder House before heading to Spanaway for a cousin’s wedding. It was a fun time but I must say it was an experience ( you know it’s a good ol’ time when the best man is in a wife beater during the reception) But it was really good to see everyone and the bride and groom seem happy!

Kaili wedding ready

Sunday morning we headed to Bonnie Lakes WA. to visit Shane’s stepbrother and family. We enjoy all our visits with them and this time was no exception. We spent the day in Seattle checking out the market and tasting food. I had Beecher’s Macaroni and Cheese which was delish! We also stopped at The Confectional, I saw this place on the Cooking channel and they were raving about how great the individual cheesecakes were. We took our dessert to a coffee place called Uptown Espresso know for their “velvety foam” where we enjoyed Lattes and cheesecake. The coffee was great and the cheesecake was just as good as the people on TV said it would be!

Monday morning we left Bonnie lakes to start our drive back to Pasco. We stopped at the Bavarian town e for a look around and lunch. The Brats and beer spot we should have eaten at was super crowded and no place for  a stroller so we skipped it and ate at a recommended Italian place. The food was good but nothing to write home about. We found that the town wasn’t very stroller friendly with most shops and restaurants upstairs or downstairs so we skipped a lot.

Gordon met us at the Pasco airport where we loaded all our stuff out of the rental car and into his truck. One more hour in the car until we arrived in Walla Walla at 7:00pm and it was still 90 degrees out. It was a long day of driving, I was exhausted so I imagine so was baby girl but she did great the entire trip!

Girls Weekend

Shane left us for the weekend to attend his cousins bachelor party. Although we missed him, the girls had a fun weekend together. My friend Kristi, her daughter Kiah and her friend came out to visit us. Saturday we went down to Pacific Beach to have breakfast at World Famous. It’s restaurant on the water well-known for their spicy bloody mary’s and eggs Benedict’s. I skipped out on the beverage but thoroughly enjoyed my meal. After breakfast we went over to Mission Beach to soak up some sun. Kaili did great under the umbrella although it was a little cold with the wind. The sun, sand and wind wiped her out and she slept like a champ at night. We leave on Thursday for our trip to Washington and baby K turns 3 months on Friday. Oh how times flies!

Bumbo

I picked up the Bumbo baby seat for baby girl today. She enjoys “sitting up” and  I think it’s because she see’s the world from a different perspective. She doesn’t have complete control of her head yet but she will soon!

Worn out!

Now that Kaili will hang out on her play mat on and off during the day, it really wears her out. She bats at the toys, moves her arms and legs and it must be good exercise. I know this because this is what I found after about 1 hour of playtime.

playing is hard work

She is sleeping so well at night I just wish I could keep her up a little later. By 6:30pm she is so cranky, tired and ready for bed. I don’t want to let her nap at that time because then we would be up really late. So I try to find ways to distract her until at least 7:30pm and then I will put her down. This is causing her to wake at 5 or 6 am. If we could push her bed time to at least 9pm maybe she will sleep until 7am. Any ideas? This is what my evenings look like when she is ready for bed!

2 Months

I can’t believe my little munchkin is 2 months old! She is now eating 3 oz. every 3 hours except at night. She sleeps anywhere from 5-10 hours at a stretch and rubs her eyes when she is tired, It’s the sweetest thing. She can entertain herself on her floor play gym for a little while, cooing and grabbing at the hanging toys. She is so close to rolling over, right now she can scoot herself around  on her back and her tummy. This morning I went into the kitchen to do the dishes and when I came back she had moved herself off the play mat. It wont be long until she is crawling…yikes! I won’t be surprised if she is giggling in the next few weeks. It is such a joy to watch her change and grow. I am so lucky to have a husband who works so hard so I am able to stay home with her to enjoy every second of it!

Happy 2 months sweetie pie!

Paso Robles

Saturday morning we made our way to Paso Robles about a 2 hour drive from Ventura, where it was a cool 100 degrees. After checking in to the hotel we headed out on our wine tasting journey. Luckily every tasting room was nice and cool and Kaili was quite popular among all the people we met.

We ended the day in downtown Paso where we stopped by another tasting room. We met some very nice people and got some recommendations for dinner. Unfortunately we couldn’t get into the “place to go” so we settled on Thai and it was a very good choice!
