Black Friday

This is the first year that I have EVER gone out in public on black Friday. Ok maybe that isn’t true but it was the first time I ever battled the mall, good lord.

We parked about a mile away from the mall and walked off some of our Thanksgiving meal, which by the way was fantastic if I do say so myself. Shane and I whipped up some pretty awesome food. We splurged on a free-range organic turkey which was absolutley divine. It was cooked perfectly, perfectly seasoned and just perfectly perfect.

The mall was as crowded as we imagined it would be but Shane was able to get a great deal or some clothes. Kaili and I hit up the kids play area while he waited in line.

After doing some damage at a few stores we went back home and continued shopping online. I can’t wait to show you my Christmas present!

Our neighbors across the street just put up their Christmas lights {over achievers} now the pressure is on to get into the holiday spirit. I am trying to expose Kaili to Santa Claus via pictures and videos. Something is telling me pictures aren’t going to go as smooth as they did last year.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Greek Dip for the Block Party

We had our block party Saturday and it was such a fun time. A lot of our neighbors showed up, we had tons of great food and live music from my next door neighbors band.

I made these chocolate chip cookies. They were very good and the recipe makes a ton, so now I have a lot of frozen cookie dough for the future. I also made a greek dip. The original recipe had it as a 7 layer greek dip but to make things easier on myself I combined all the ingredients beside the hummus and tzatziki before hand .The flavors got to hang out and be merry for a few hours and then I just tossed it on top, it was delish. I doubled the recipe and served with pita bread.

Kaili had a fun time mingling with new people, feeding the dogs pita bread and dancing to the music. She also met a little friend from our street who played with her, oh and she took some solo steps. The time is coming soon and we will have ourselves a walker.

The only shot I got of her in these cute glasses. She’s quick like cat.

I don’t think we were ready for the picture

Over all the block party was a success. I met a bunch of great people and one potential baby sitter.

Olympic Goals and Soccer Dreams

Olympic Training Center

Saturday we went out to the Olympic training center in Chula Vista, aka Wag’s home. It was buzzing with BMX Olympians and loads of their fans to watch the Olympic trials. I wasn’t even aware that BMX was a sport in the Olympics, shows you what I know.

It was a pretty big ordeal and fun to see. There were skydivers and the band Buck-O-Nine played in between the trials.

Incoming

We didn’t get to stay to see the finals because the little Miss needed dinner and things were running behind schedule. 19-year-old Connor Fields took home the trophy and landed a spot on the US Olympic team and will compete in London next month.

Futures so bright!

On Sunday or should I say Father’s day Shane, Kaili and I drove up to Irvine. Shane got to spend the day with his babe and I took my parents to see the Galaxy take on Portland.

I love soccer. Even though the Galaxy hasn’t been on a winning streak lately they did pull out a win this time. Half of the team is either injured or playing on their national team in Europe so it was mostly second string players. Beckham showed up and  played very well but it was our goalie who saved the game.

Back to Father’s day. Kaili made Shane a little gift, don’t you love it?

Happy Father’s Day!

London Calling

Forget all my kid stuff for a minute. Let’s talk about why we are going to London in a few months!

My husband and David Wagner have been friends since grade school but Shane didn’t know that David would be a world class athlete.

In 1996 David suffered a life changing accident at the beach in LA that left him paralyzed.

After the accident there were years of struggle, but eventually he found his way back to a passion.

After 4 Paralympic medals in wheelchair tennis, he is headed to the London Paralympics and we will be there to cheer him on.

Here short video of David. This was made back in January as he was preparing for the Australian open.

He most recently started a free wheelchair tennis camp for disabled children. It took place June 9th in Portland Oregon, David said he had an amazing time with the kids.

The Paralympics follow the Olympics. The opening ceremonies kick off on August 29. I will share his journey and ours with you. Until then, I leave you with some pictures of a wonderful man, extraordinary athlete and amazing friend.

Handy Dandy {Make Life Easier} Tips

I have come across some pretty clever tricks to help with some every day PITA things.

  • Meatballs- Love eating meatballs but hate getting the mushy meat in between your fingers? I know I do. Roll the meat mixture into a log form. Cut into 1 inch pieces, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and put them inside a colander. Roll the meatballs around the colander and voila, instant round meatballs with clean hands.

  • Fix broken makeup -Do you have a favorite compact powder or bronzer but hate it when it breaks into pieces. Fix it by adding  a few small drops of rubbing alcohol into your broken makeup compact, after you add the alcohol to the broken powder you will notice it seep into the powder causing it to become soft. Smudge the soft soaking powder around, making it into a paste-like substance and re-form it by smoothing it out with your finger. Let it dry overnight for best results.
  • Keep your Halloween Jack O Lantern from getting moldy- Carving a pumpkin is no simple feat and they usually get moldy before the holiday even arrives. Keep them fresh by using Silica gel packets.  Once you carve your pumpkin, remove gel beads from packet and embed them into the inside flesh of the pumpkin.
  • Remove crayon from the wall- Is your little Picasso creating his masterpiece on your walls? Just use WD-40 for easy clean up. Apply a small amount to the surface and rub away with a clean cloth.
  • DIY Chip Clips- Do you have any of those plastic hangers with clips on them lying around? Well turn them into a chip clip  by breaking or sawing off the clips from the hanger. Now you have an instant chip clip, or in my case a chocolate chip clip.
  • Shoo Mosquito!-  Put a dryer sheet in your pocket to keep those mosquitos away.
  • DIY Lip gloss – Mix a few drops of red food coloring into some Vaseline for instant lip gloss. Want it flavored? Mix in a little Kool-Aid powder, mint or vanilla extract. How easy is that?
Do you have any other tips that you love? Please share!
