Goodbye Crib

So apparently we aren’t supposed to let our children sleep in cribs their entire life, who made this rule?

I was in no hurry to make this transition, she slept like a champ, hasn’t fallen out and cracked her head open, or let alone successfully made an escape. However Shane has been chomping on the bit to make the change…<—-he will be sorry when she’s bringing boys home, gonna wish she was still in a crib.

I talked to Kaili about her big girl bed for a few weeks before the transition. Sunday morning she watched Shane convert her crib to her new toddler bed and then we all went to Target to get her a night light for her room. The other idea was to make sure that the first night in her bed she was exhausted and that plan was successful. She went right down, a.m.a.z.i.n.g. We were expecting her to hop out of bed and come on out a few times, but nope, she fell fast asleep.

"I wake up"
“I wake up”
"I get down"
“I get down”
"I"...well you get the picture
“I”…well you get the picture

Transition successful? Mostly, she woke up at 5:30 am I heard her hop out of bed and chit chat with herself but she stayed in there quietly and gave me another 20 minutes to stay in bed. She’s used to sleeping in the dark, no nightlight, door closed. I was concerned that she might need some light if she wakes in the night so she can see what she is doing. But I fear that the light in the room gave her the sense that 5:30 was an acceptable time to start the day…it is not.

Night two, again she went down just fine. When I checked on her before turning in I unplugged the nightlight hoping if she woke early she would just go back to sleep. Wrong. This time she woke up earlier and wasn’t going to go back to sleep. So in and out of her room I went until 6 am and then we got up, 3 cups of coffee later I was semi ready for the day.

Since Daylight savings time is coming up I have been keeping her up 10 minutes later each night and the third night she went down 30 minutes later than normal. She had a bit of a hard time going down but once she did I didn’t hear from her until 6:30 am. Making progress people.

So I must say the transition was smooth and a whole hell of a lot easier than I expected it to be. Phew!

Go Away Mommy

“Go away mommy!” Kaili says that quite often these days and now I am giving the girl what she wants, I’m outta here.

We rented a house in Arizona through VRBO for a week getaway. The guys will be going to the Hawk vs. Cardinal game on Thursday and I will be lounging in the pool with a glass of wine. A little mind cleanse before my FET.

Shane and Wags left a few days ago for Seattle where they played downtown, went to the Seahawk game and ate amazing looking food, I have to say I was a tad jealous, oh who am I kidding, really jealous!

Kaili and I picked up Grandpa G from the airport Saturday afternoon, he is my wing man for the drive to Arizona. Before we left he wanted to represent the Walla Walla  #12 at the Hawk game, so we made him this.

Wave it proud G!

I am more hesitant about leaving Kaili this time  around than ever before. Maybe it’s because she is more aware, always clinging to me, or constantly asking “where mommy go?” Whatever the reason, it sucks. But, I need some time away so I have been preparing her for my absence. I made her this, aren’t I clever? In my defense I did most of this upside down. Nt like I was standing on my head but…well you get what I’m saying, I hope.

I will share pics of our Arizona rental once we arrive. Unless it’s a shithole then I won’t show you anything but I will tell you how fabulous it is.

Puppy Love

Kaili is still sick. She still has a fever, is terribly congested and has ugly cough. Saturday afternoon I bit the bullet and took her to urgent care just to ease my mind. I was worrying and haven’t been able to sleep through the night without checking on her a handful of times. Luckily it’s nothing major, just a bad cold and some laryngitis.

Do you know what makes any sick kid feel better? Puppies! We were pleasantly surprised when our next door neighbors got themselves a new addition.  Meet Roxy, you will be seeing a lot of her!

She is the sweetest thing. Kaili is happy to have a new playmate.

The One About The Sick Kid

We had a nice healthy run but it’s come to an end. Tuesday Kaili developed a low grade fever and some mediocre whining, nothing else. Wednesday night was rough, she woke up every few hours and at 2:00 A.M. she was burning up. I took her temperature 3 times and it averaged to a 102 degree fever. I gave her some Advil and went back to bed trying not to worry. I laid there until the sun came up, checking on her every so often.

Kaili was yelling “mommy, I wake up” by 6:00, this was going to be a long day. Thankfully, I already had the day off and Shane would be home soon.

Her Advil wore off and her fever came back along with hoarseness and a cough. She is in a decent mood considering  and she goes  through some sever whining fits but fingers crossed this is the worst of it!?!?

Keeping her busy
Keeping her busy

Tomorrow, is my last scheduled day of work for now. I really enjoy working but I also miss having some free days. The grass is always greener I guess.

Monday is my sono aka Sonohysterogram at Reproductive Partners, here we go again….Ready for all the fertility lingo?

K’s First Haircut

I wish I had some dramatic story to tell you, something about the way she flipped out on the the hair stylist and kicked and screamed through the entire thing. Ha ha, no I don’t, but that is the way I saw this going  in my head, which is why I kept putting it off, but she proved me wrong.

To make it a special occasion I got her a milkshake before we hit the hair place. I thought that she would be so entranced in the deliciousness that she wouldn’t mind sitting still for a few minutes. But she didn’t even want the shake until we were in the car on the way home.

What can I say? She did great and had the entire salon gushing over her. Proud to be her mommy.

Ramblings

This is going to be a catch up blog post. The past week has flown by and I was shocked to see that today was September 4th…what happened?

I dropped Kaili off at school this morning, actually left her there, I had a hard time leaving. But now I have a few hours of peace and quiet to clean, watch SYTYCD, sit in the sun and read?

Our 7 year wedding anniversary is coming up and Shane is whisking me away for the weekend.  The destination has been a surprise until I finally figured it out this morning in the shower. It’s not far from our house but it’s somewhere I have been wanting to stay. I will tell you on Friday.

Now for the phone dump.

Can you believe how long her hair is getting?

IMG_20130829_080721

Friday was “water” day at school.

IMG_20130830_183217

Saturday we were in Irvine for my cousins wedding. It was a gorgeous wedding and she was a beautiful bride but ladies, having your wedding on a holiday weekend isn’t always  best for your guests.

IMG_20130831_143440 IMG_20130831_155800

We had some friends come over to play and Kaili said she wants a baby in the house. I guess I should go call Dr. Garzo to talk about getting knocked up. Stay tuned for that conversation.

D is for Dinosaur and Dentist

The past few weeks I have been working on Dinosaurs with the kids. We used our  imaginations to take us back in time and explored a world very different from the one we live in today. I branched out a bit with the older kids and they were  surprised to find that “prehistoric animals” didn’t just mean dinosaurs.

In other not so fascinating news, Kaili had her first dentist appointment. I was referred to a pediatric dentist through Shane and my dentist, I am not convinced there is really a difference. Well besides the waiting room…

IMG_20130828_142236

Our dentist doesn’t have video games in his waiting room. Is there a rule that we have to take kids to a pediatric dentist or do all dentist see all ages?

The good news is that her teeth are fine but he told me I wasn’t supposed to be using fluoride on her yet. But but but our pediatrician said fluoride toothpaste was fine after 2 years old. Why is this so confusing?

He did mention that she has underbite and said she should see an orthodontist at age 5 or 6.  She did just fine. Sat for him, opened her mouth when asked, closed it when asked, just like the perfect little angel she is.

IMG_20130828_142916

She has a follow up appointment at 3 years with a cleaning and x-rays, the whole she-bang. I hope she can get through childhood without any fears of the dentist, clowns are bad enough.

Three years ago today I found out I was pregnant. I remember shaking as I answered that phone call and I was SO elated when I heard the news. It was a hard, emotional, needle and pill filled road but very worth it.

The kids had their official graduation Sunday, it has also been 3 years since the last time I watched the little ones get their diplomas … I’ve missed  it. The new school year starts next week and with that my 3 month stint is up. I will stay on as a sub and will be working most of September for a teacher who is traveling to Spain. Kaili will continue to attend 3 days a week unless I am needed at school  and Shane isn’t home.

IMG_20130826_081849 IMG_20130826_081900

See how cute she looks in those pictures? What you can’t tell is that she is missing a dire piece of protection. Somehow I managed to bring her to school without a diaper on.  {face palm} No, I wasn’t lucky enough to notice before she peed and no she didn’t tell me when she peed all over herself.  Awesome Monday morning.

IMG_20130826_163717 IMG_20130826_163720

She is starting to show some interest in sitting on the potty but she doesn’t actually go, baby steps in the right direction.

No Way!

Me- “Kaili, put your crayons away please!”

Kaili- “No way!”

Me- “Kaili it’s time to get out of the bath”

Kaili- “No way!”

Me- “K bear, give me a high five!”

Kaili- “No way!”

Me- “Kaili it’s still night night time, go back to sleep.”

Kaili- “No way!”

See, her language is coming along just fine!
